NEWS for Winter 2024
We want to thank everyone who risked their lives dodging the Oklahoma Dept of Transportation’s “Gauntlet” they created to get south of the Canadian River I-35 and onto Hiway 9 West.
Rant: It is (should be) criminal what ODOT & their construction engineers did.. AGAIN… this is the 3rd time in about 10 years. You would think they would learn from the 1st… or even 2nd disaster they created. But, alas, NO! Hiways blocked for miles in all directions and multiple accidents each day. And our “Holiday Sales” down +30% because people were afraid to drive on I-35 or wait forever in traffic to get here. So I want to thank those of you who did suffer through it to come shop at the store. ps… now that the holidays are over... OK DOT fixed the interchange, so there is not the bottlenecks that created the accidents and delays. Go figure. Better late than never I guess.
On to PECANS... It is another dismal crop for central Oklahoma back yard and field trees. And not sure why… the usual culprits didn’t make an appearance… Early Freeze Late Freeze Rain During Pollination Drought Or No Rain during kernel fill in the fall
There are a few other reasons we might see a diminished crop, but that would be “diminished”, not “non-existent”! Squirrels for instance… and yes there is a lot of squirrel pressure. All the pecans from last year helped create a bloom in their populations. But they will be going hungry this winter… if we get a winter. It has been pretty “nice” so far!
It is said there may be another reason some crops aren’t producing as well as they did a decade ago… And I have to be honest… it makes me wonder... Why the fact that farmers who spray their crops with all manner of chemicals (including the pecan orchards) generally always have some kind of a crop… unless Mother Nature steps in then all bets are off. But if she hasn’t done anything to curtail the growth of the plants on her planet… I have to wonder about the whispers saying that there is something else being sprayed in the air that is hampering the growth… just whispers because... Heaven forbid anyone talk about anything that goes against the “prescribed” dialogue.
Good news… Happy New Year !!!
Our Spring Hours are posted below. And… we are cracking pecans… sometimes while you wait.
As you can tell we are not some BIG hoity toity corporation that wants to take over the world. We are a small family/locally owned, ran & employed company.
If you prefer a BIG hoity toity corporation… may I suggest Wally World or Amazon…
But if you want a much nicer product from a friendly company that that keeps the money here in Oklahoma or at least USA... (sorry some nuts just are not grown in the USA)
We THANK YOU for visiting with us!!! |
